The festival of sacrifice is the most important festival of Muslims worldwide. This festival is also known as Hajj. It is celebrated on the 10th day of the Month of Dul Haji, the twelfth month of the Islamic calendar, every year to commemorate the sacrifice of The Prophet Ibrahim, the Messenger of God.

The fifth of the basic duties is to perform hajj for wealthy Muslims. Hajj is a pilgrimage to Mecca. The last of these sacred activities is to sacrifice for The lord. This is the tenth day of the hajj month. It is offered to the people of the temple after the day of the prayer. Although the festival is often called Eid al-Adha, the Arabic word that means sacrifice, it is called Bakrid (Bakrid eid al-ta-day) based on the sacrifice of a goat in Tamil Nadu.

Ibrahim was one of the Muslims who believed to be the messengers of God. He lived in present-day Iraq about 4,000 years ago. [2] He was a long-time childless man and was eventually born to a boy by his second wife, Asara. The Arabs of today were descended from the child named Ismaeel. [3] When Ismail was in childhood, God had commanded Ibrahim to offer him a sacrifice. When Ibrahim had told Ishmael about this, he dared to sacrifice with his permission, and the Lord sent a man called Siphrayel and prevented it. And the Lord sent down a sheep and commanded Ibrahim to slaughter the sheep instead of Ishmael.

The sacrifice day is celebrated on the basis of this incident. Muslims celebrate the festival by offering sheep at their homes to commemorate Ibrahim's sacrifice.

Special Prayers

Special prayers are performed on the day of sacrifice. Muslims around the world wear new clothes and attend these prayers. Mostly, this prayer is performed in open spaces like the courtyard.

Day of Sacrifice

Sacrifice is a special feature of the sacrifice day. Muslims offer goats, cattle, camels in their homes in the name of God. Then they divide the meat into three equal shares, give one share to neighbors and friends and the other to the poor, and use the third for their needs. The animal sacrificed is not disabled and at least one year old is maintained
